Something pretty odd that I have observed while in Thailand: Apparently they are not big fans of to-go cups. When you order a drink to-go they put it in a BAG, fill it with ice, and stick in a straw! While you might think its very inconvenient at first due to not being able to set it down on a table or something, its not so bad. When is the last time you hung a to-go CUP on a doorknob? Uh huh! That is one of the many conveniences of the plastic bag. :) It took a little getting used to, but I actually like the "bag method" now. It is very easy to carry around. Just hang it off of one finger, and you still have 9 other fingers that are free to be used. And here is a picture of some candy I saw while grocery shopping. Pretty cool, huh? I wonder if it is BSD?

The most wonderful quote I have ever heard in my life: "If I don't lie, how can I stay alive?" That was a quote from the girl I am staying with here in Bangkok. Let me just say, FRIENDS, those are words to live by.

Hi. Here is a view of Bangkok from my apartment. (btw, taken by my phone... Nokia 3650) No beautiful sunset tonight. No real traffic either.. I guess because it is Sunday. Usually the highway is gridlocked. I hear Bangkok has the worse traffic in the world. I believe it. On my way home from Siam Park City (a fun water park type of place--boy am I STILL not tan) my bus was stuck at a stupid traffic light over 20 minutes without moving 1 INCH!! Man! I get all upset just thinking about it. Breathe deeply Andrew, breathe deeply.... Btw, I have been talking to an old good friend lately via email.. Some of you know him... Brian Scotti! He is currently living in Japan teaching English with the JET program. He is going to visit Bangkok in December, and we are going to kick it old school. Wait a second--We didn't go to Thai go-go bars and hang out with prostitutes back in Saint Louis... Heheh.. Im JUST kidding... Of course we did!! Btw, I think he might be in a Yakusa motorcycle gang now. Btw, while you might think his motorcycle is cool, when I put the picture up of me on my Mo-Ped, you will totally think *I* am the SHIT.

Ok.. Why can't things just be perfect? I come to Thailand to live... Fresh seafood is soooo cheap, so I think, "MAN! Im going to be SKINNY after awhile." But then BEER is sooo cheap too... So, you know, I HAVE to take advantage of that... and now: I'm NOT going to be skinny. Damn it. 1 lobster = 1 dollar. 1 32 oz beer = 75 cents. Damn it.

Hey! Man, this is cool: I just bought a mo-ped! Am I gay or what? (No, Im not gay.. but you should see me riding this moped!) hahaah! Good times! Its this little bike thing that folds up... and its also motorized. Supercool! Since I'm scared of driving REAL motorcycles, this is the perfect thing for me in Bangkok. And it was only 200 dollars new! SWEEEEET! (heh) It has a light.. and a horn and everything! Hahah! I'll have to get a picture of me on it... So y'all can see. Expect it soon!

Ok. I am now in Bangkok. Moved. Just got a monitor and speakers to go with my G5.. Ugh... I don't know how I am going to be able to live with a paltry 17" SINGLE monitor configuration.. (yes, this shall be the drama queen episode) Anyway. Just ate some yummy papaya salad... good stuff. The food is a big reason that I keep finding myself here (NO. Its not the prostitutes. Though they are nice too.. Hahaha. ahhhh.. good times.) So, ya, concerning that.. I am here for atleast three months... I am going to start a Thai language (writing/speaking) course on Monday. Btw, MONO was great.. Saw them at Spaceland the night before I left. I went with my friend LaShawn... I think he was pretty blown away... I'm happy about that because he is who went to Tokyo with me, and we could not find ANY good music... And MONO is the band that has given me hope as far as the city is concerned musically. Aight then... Expect more updates to this page, as I will have less distraction and MUCH LESS time wasted in front of the TV... Somehow watching Thai soap operas isn't appealing to me... And it appears that is my only option.

Ok... Just got back from Mexico last night... Was shooting for 2 documentaries... One about the "Day of the Dead"... an ancient/modern celebration of death that started back in the Aztec days, and the other about the 201st Squadron, which was a Mexican airforce squadron that served with the United States in World War II. It was fun, but there were many pigfucks, as usual. It was 10 days. I will be leaving for Bangkok in a few days.. Whew... Too much to do before then... Mono is playing tomorrow night--WOO HOO! Alright then.

I will be in Mexico City/Guadalajara/etc doing a shoot for a documentary about Dia de la Muerte (Day of the Dead) up until I leave pretty much... So beginning Oct 30th, I am pretty much OUT OF SUCKTOWN!! Woo hoo! I will be coming back on January 29th... So, ya, I'm going to take some Thai language courses while there to make my time productive. (Yes, I am going to do more than drink while there... Im bringing my brand spanking new G5 with me to finish editing the documentary I have been working on for FAR TOO LONG.) Alright then. Email will be the best way to contact me while I am gone: andrew@deepgeek.net.

Man, it is so hot here in LA. I am finally back home for awhile... After a pretty solid month of travelling... 2 and half weeks in Colombia. I went to Cartagena for 2 weeks, and then stayed in Bogota for a few days. It was nice. Then shortly after went to NYC for a documentary shoot, and then Las Vegas for a the same project. Oh, by the way, I am moving to Bangkok in October.

Ok... lack of motivation to update... Just got back from Mexico City. Went to Puebla too. It was a super cool place. Mexico is more than its border with California apparently. Hehe. I want to spend more time in Puebla. Getting ready to go back to Colombia.. this time to Cartagena. Looking forward to that. Working on the trailer for The Joystick Generation. Just bought a PXL 2000. Here is a picture of me in Mexico City. How was that for an update?

Wow. Almost 2 months... I need to get with the program here. Umm, I dunno. Life is kindof boring these days. Nothing special. I miss San Francisco. Los Angeles is OK, but nothing more. I am getting antsy to move out of the country. I just don't really want to be here right now for some reason. I don't know what. Boredom? Hm.. Soon enough, Tiger. Soon enough.

Im excited to live next to ThaiTown here in LA... I went grocery shopping (I have been cooking lots of Thai lately) at Bangkok Market, and it rocked! Fresh salmon filets for 1.69 a pound! I bought some and they are great! I do believe I will be eating much more salmon. I made Tom Yum Goong (Thai spicy/sour soup with shrimp) for the first time the other day... Turned out rather well. Yum. On a related note, one of the friends I met in Thailand a few month ago is finally writing a journal of our adventures. If you would like to read it, email me. Im afraid I cannot post it on here.

I just booked my flight to Saint Louis for the Christmas/New Year holidays. I will be coming to Saint Louis on December 23, and leaving January 2. Any Saint Louis people that want to hang out and buy me a drink, let me know! I will probably be hanging out at CBGB most often... But I must get some Lion's Choice, Imo's, White Castles, Pasta House, and Dressel's while in town. Mmm, and some Blue Moon beer. (probably from Blueberry Hill) Ah, let me not forget about Schlafly Hefeweizen and Oatmeal Stout as well. Saint Louis really is a good drinking town.

Wow! I just got back from seeing the Japanese band MONO (from tokyo) for the second time... I saw them last night with Wilfred at the Silverlake Lounge... and tonight at the Derby. It was really amazing. I haven't been this excited about a band since LOW... They are a really, really amazing band. They have given me new hope that Tokyo is a cool place (musically)... If I could've seen them while in Tokyo, my trip wouldve been 10 times more important/exciting. I left Tokyo wondering if there was anything (musically) I could relate to (as hip hop is simply not my thing)... and then I came to LA and saw MONO... Good times. Life is good.

OK, real update coming soon.. (pictures and everthing). I guess I will talk about the past few months for a bit now tho... I went to Asia for a month with 2 of my friends... Jean Claude, and LaShawn... Can I just say that beer in Japan is EXPENSIVE? Yes, I can. I paid 9 dollars for a Budwieser... Yikes! On average beers where 8 dollars... Tokyo was amazing. If ever there was a city that reminded me of Bladerunner, it would be Tokyo. Really amazing place. Everyone has the same cellphone though... That was kindof gay. Ahh.. Japanese people... They're funny. I think it is safe to say that Japan hated LaShawn. Especially the subway turnstiles... After his 2 weeks in Japan his new nickname of "Shaft" really rang true. Haha! Ah, funny. And Jean Claude (I showed him around Thailand a bit), whew! Hah. Good times! Thats all for now...

Its already 9/11 again... Last year at this time I was stranded in Hong Kong because the airports were closed... A year has passed already? Jeez. Anyway, I am busy packing my apartment for the upcoming move. Movers will be picking up my stuff on the 15th. I then leave for Japan on the 17th... Stay in Asia for a month and will be flying directly to LA on the 15th of October... Then I get to search for an apartment... Woo hoo! (that was a sarcastic "woo hoo" by the way...) Anyway, very busy these days. A lot to do, and not much time to do it. Hmm, a perfect time to start using iCal! I think I will download it now!

Hmm.. whatdya know... It's been a month since I've last written... Anyway, I have decided to (temporarily) move back to Los Angeles. Basically I will be living there until I finish The Joystick Generation, the documentary I am currently producing/directing. It is just more convenient. It was very depressing to think that I will be leaving San Francisco, but I know it won't be permanently so, it's all good. I am actually a little excited to be back in LA... I will be packing my stuff and putting it in storage on Sept 16th, and then going to Japan for a month. I will be flying back to LAX straight from Japan. Woo hoo! Japan! I'm excited!

Funkin' shit. I need to update this more. I promise I will. I guess tonight is the first night that I have read through all of my previous entries... It is nice to have something to go back to... and see what I was up to longst ago. Anyway, life is pretty decent these days... I have a total desire to travel again SOON, so I have been working hard to get the money.. I wanna go several places in Sept/Oct, so that is my current goal... That and kicking some ass with The Joystick Generation... which is actually coming together really nicely... Nolan Bushnell has given a YES to get interviewed, and, Curt, one of the films "advisors" has TONS of b-roll for the project.. its really going to save me MUCHO time... Oh ya, and I'm progressing quite nicely with my Espanol lessons.

Ok. I'm back from Colombia! It was a REALLY good time. There were a few eerrr.. bumps in the trip... but over all--MUY BUENO! (Thats "very good", right?) Needless to say, I am learning Espanol to communicate with the new friends I made on the trip... :) Colombia is full of very nice people! The wedding was very nice! You can see that tradition was followed.. Tom (Bup) wore the sombrero during the wedding after party while mariachis played. Also you can see a photo of me and Bup before the wedding.. (Man, I'm good looking.. ahem.) I don't want to hear anyone say how much better his tie is than mine! I know! :) hehehe... I think I stood out in Bogota as the ONLY person with blonde hair and blue eyes.. (seriously). But everything was fine... No reason to feel scared there... Life is as normal there as any big city in the world. I do hope to get back and see Cartagena! (I wasn't able to go there this trip) Anyway, I guess my favorite cerveza whilst in Colombia would have been Club Colombia. It was tastey. And the helado... Well, just ask Bup about the helado with mucho sprinkles!

Well, it looks like I was wrong... My next trip will not be to Tokyo... It will be to Bogota, Colombia. I am going there June 10th - 19th. My cousin Tom (Bup) is getting married over there, so I am flying over to attend the wedding and hang out for a week. I am excited because I was really wanting to travel down in South America. It is one of the last (realistic) continents that I haven't been to yet. (Australia & S. America) And for some reason Australia just doesn't excite me. (Although I will probably be visiting there in about a year because my friend Wilfred is moving there) Anyway, back to Colombia--I think it's going to be quite an adventure! Many crazy things happening over there, so I am sure it will be exciting! And it will be fun hanging out in another country with my cousin Bup... I usually travel alone and meet people as I travel, but I think it will be nice to experience this with a family member. I am wondering if I will have time to visit Cartegena (due to the film Romancing the Stone). The wedding seems to be right in the middle of the trip, so I shall likely keep within Bogota... And apparently you cannot travel outside of Colombia's city limits due to severe rebel activity (they like kidnapping people), so I would have to fly if I were to go to Cartagena... and I'm on a budget so... Ok, I'm starting to ramble. I shall let you all know how my trip goes when I get back. (Maybe even put up a few pictures)

It has been awhile... (sigh) Im bad at updating. Plus I've been moderately busy. No, not having a life or anything, but busy nontheless. Hmm... I can't really think of much to say. I just wanted to update this because people were telling me to. :) Oh, I know! I'll tell you about the coolest new toy that I got. Its a DigiQ mini remote controlled car. Its a yellow New Beetle. Its the size of a hot wheel, but its remote controlled... They arent really sold here in the US yet, so I had to order it from Hong Kong, but apparently they are all the rage in Japan.. And I can see why! They are FUNNN!!! They go so fast, and they are so maneuverable. Highly recommended! Here is a URL to check them out. Be sure to watch the video, its coool!

Japanese is HARD! They speak so FAST! Ok... so heres my first word: "Hajimemashite" which means "How do you do?"... So you see "Hajimemashite"... you THINK you know how its pronounced... But it isnt. Not even close. And they say it like in less that a half second. Whew! Im sweating already. Just trying to speak the words fast enough, I feel as though I am in a race. It's weird.

Woo hoo! I enrolled in a Japanese language class today. My first class is Saturday. Im excited! The class is 3 hours per week... It has been awhile since I have been to a "class". I hope my old high school/college habits no longer exist. I had a problem staying awake... and doing homework for that matter. I think it will be better this time. Im taking the class because I *want* to, and that HAS to count for something.

I've decided something. My next trip is going to be to Tokyo. I am so excited. I don't know when it will happen... I guess I will start looking out for good deals on airline tickets.. From what I can tell it will cost only around $500 from here in SF... Of course once I get to Tokyo I will be paying 8 bucks per beer... (but thats another story). I can taste the ramen now. I'm excited. In fact, I'm going to start learning Japanese. (enough to get around while there) Exciting! In other news: Hmm... no other news. Except that Yasser Arafat sucks. But thats not news really. We all knew that.

Heh. Kickin' a little Barcelona for ya there. Anyway.. I'm back from Asia (again). Meant to go to Vietnam. Didn't work out due to lack of planning (getting a VISA), so I ended up going to Angkor (Siem Reap, Cambodia)... I didn't get to go last time, so I'm happy to have been able to finally see it. It was... amazing. Truly. Worthy of the "1 of the 7 wonders o' the world" title it has. Far too many stories from my trip to bore you with, so I shall just say: Thai Beer (Singha) kicks my ass. I drink 3 or 4 and all the sudden Im on the floor. It is weird. Sure, its 6%, but one moment I feel fine, and then the next I feel like I can't walk. It's weird... Took me about a week to realize I needed to switch beers. Hehe. I still like Singha though. I just need to learn how to drink it or something. I dunno. I met a lot of new people on my trip (which is always fun). Also spent about a week in Bangkok (which I really didnt have time to hang out in on my last trip either)... Bangkok is a fascinating city. I immediately remembered why I like it when I was driving into the city from the airport. I think THAT is the city that will most be like the film Bladerunner in the future. When I finally got to the place I was staying and got out of the taxi I realized what I DONT like about Bangkok--It is hard to breathe. Pollution is truly a problem. I lived in LA for 4 years, and air in LA reminds me of a nice spring morning compared to Bangkok's. Still though, a FASCINATING city. I like it.

Back from Miami! I flew in to San Francisco in amazing weather! It was so clear an beautiful. You could see the Golden Gate Bridge from the runway at the Oakland Airport. Half of the time you can't see the Golden Gate Bridge FROM the Golden Gate Bridge. Miami was a blast. Met a lot of fun people and had many a good time--and ate so much Cuban food. We went to the original Versailles Cuban restaurant in Miami... It was a regular favorite of mine while I lived in Los Angeles. Good stuff. We also went to Key West. That got a bit crazy and wierd... So many drunk people (including ourselves)... Ed almost got arrested. Ah, good times, good times. I like Miami.

Im kicking it in Miami with Kurty... We came down to visit Ed (Sqash) for 10 days... We arrive... Drive home from the airport... Sqash blares the theme song to Miami Vice... Super cool! We refuse to drive henceforth without it. It is just so damn fitting. Kurty has a wonderful rendition of Miami Vice... No lyrics you say? Think again... Boy can he hum... :) heheheh Good times. :) We are going to Key West this weekend... Looking forward to that... Apparently that is where Kurty is going to get his "groove on"... We shall see. Me and Kurty went to Club Space (the sister club to Space in Ibiza) It ROCKED! Not QUITE as good as Ibiza, but definitely cool. The music and vibe were really great. I guess 10 bucks per drink kindof sucked though... But, as I said, good time. Me and Kurty danced all night. It was really fun. The Mini-Motors competition is in full swing... Kurty had a bad day today... Bought me 4 rounds of drinks, appetizers, and owes me lunch tomorrow. tee hee hee. Ok, Im going to sleep now. More later!

Ok, apparently I offended Troy with my last little entry. I would formally like to apologize to he and his wife for making fun... (It was all in good fun! Honest!) Like I told Kurty, if I had a wife, I would definitely like for her to say "cum" a lot. I think its unanimous that it is a fine quality to have in a wife. But enough about that. Latest proposal news: Woo hoo! Im *ALMOST* done... (well, with the hardest part--the project description) Its coming in at right around 6 pages... With all of the other sections, it will be close to 10 pages. I think its not to bad. I look forward to being done with it, so I can finally get started on the FUN part of making films. (the actual MAKING of the film) I shall keep you all updated.

Hey everybody! I've been quoted on a site called monorail. He called me "intentionally disheveled guy". I don't think I care for that nickname. I think I will refer to him as dear-mitt from now on. Or I could refer to him as "one whose wife says 'cum' a lot". Ya, I think I like that better... And also, I've noticed that I've been using this section of my website to whine a lot. Thats stupid. I'm going to stop that.

Can I just say that I'm really tired of drama? I am. It seems as though my life has been choc full of drama for about the past year. I don't know.. I just... want drama to go away. But on to another subject--the documentary. After going to the proposal class and getting some excellent feedback from people (especially my friend Wilfred), I think I am on the right track with the latest version... I look forward to completing it in a week or so. Woo hoo! Oh, and on a sad note, I read that one of my favorite indie pop bands, Barcelona, is breaking up. That is depressing. They sang about Commodore 64's and other computer geeky things... And they did it WELL. They shall be missed.

Hi. Just went to a proposal writing class. It rocked. I learned a lot. Im excited. And the Noise Pop festival is next month here in San Francisco. Im excited about that too. Its going to rawk. Grrrrr! Jeez.. Well, I have my web stuff taken care of now.. (changed hosting companies for the fifth time in a year and a half) Now Im getting emails from the last company that are pretty aggressive... Sigh.. What the fucking FUCK? I am SO sick of my stupid webhosting companies SCREWING ME OVER! Right when I start getting back into the groove with my "web work" the webhosting company of the day FUCKS ME! Man. Anyway... Thats that. I've uh had a little to drink tonight, so that may be why I'm a little umm, liberal with the profanity. Ahem. Heh. Ya, so, it is henceforth my policy to update this section on a very regular basis. (my track record has been MUCH better over the past 2 weeks) ANYWAY, I just got some surround sound speakers for my stereo, so everything is just sounding so incredible. I like it. S'all for now.

Whew! Man am I glad to be back home from Saint Louis. Jeez. What was I thinking? 2 weeks? Lets just say that I learned a lesson. Won't happen again. Saint Louis is nice and all (Lion's Choice, White Castles, Pasta House, STL Style pizza, Schlafly Hefewiezen) but 2 weeks is excessive. A good time was had though. Several actually. I missed San Francisco. Oh, I can't wait for MacWorld! This Monday. Apple is hyping it like crazy (and they NEVER hype anything) so it is really driving me (and my MacGeekFriends) INSANE! I can wait no longer.

OK, I really need to update this site more often. (sigh) Okay, the latest: I'm currently in the "searching for funding" phase of my documentary. I am getting together a proposal and a budget to give to potential funders. The first draft of that will be completed in January, and then the true "searching for funding" begins. Im learning a lot. Heh. Anyway, I no longer work at Live at the Fillmore, so doing the documentary (as well as my "web work") will be my career for the next year or two. Im excited about that. The other documentary I'm working on, Man In Search of Immortality, will be going into the post production phase soon, which is a nice milestone. Enough about business... Tomorrow I leave to go to Saint Louis for the holidays. I will be there from December 19th to January 3rd. Im excited about spending Xmas and New Years there this year (as I didn't last year). I look forward to spending time with family and friends. Im going to try to make it up to Chicago while I'm there too! Ok, so thats the extent of my personal life right now... So its back to business. An interesting story--All my "websites" were recently lost due to the FBI seizing the equipment of my web hosting company. It was part of the recent worldwide operation against software piracy. Ah well. Life goes on. Oh! I'd like to give a shout out to my first girlfriend ever: Heather. We recently got back in touch after having not talked in 7 years. (No drama, just lost touch.) I just came up with a new feature for my website! In these little "journal" entries I am going to start listing the CDs I am listening to most at that time. (Mostly for myself to look back and remember what I was listening to at that point in time.) Here goes:
Listening to: Life Without Buildings, Ian van Dahl "Castles In The Sky", Anjunabeats, John Lennon.

Its been awhile... Anyway, Im getting my ass in gear and setting up shoots for the Golden Age of Video-Games documentary that I am doing. (I also setup a website for my film company--the one I will be doing the documentary under--Run|Stop Films) Its cool. I like the name and the logo. Im also in the process of setting up my next adventure. I will be going to Thailand in August! Fun! We are starting to do interviews for the other documentary I'm working on Man In Search of Immortality. Other than that, I'm keeping busy doing the Live at the Fillmore show. Im back from Israel/Egypt. I had a great time! (Especially in Cairo--It's an amazing city.) I started working on a new show now that Im back. Its a monthly music show called "Live at the Fillmore". I will be co-producing it and it looks like its going to be a really fun show. Its a half hour show that documents what it takes to put on a show at the Fillmore Club here in San Francisco. It will consist of interviews with the band, behind the scenes before and after the show, and live performance footage recorded the night of the show via a remote truck. Its cool! I still plan on doing the documentary about the golden age of videogames, but it is being delayed a little longer than I thought due to this new show.

Happy Valentines Day! Ok... Im busy tying up loose ends and trying to get ready for the trip to Israel/Egypt. Exciting! Probably not the BEST time to go... But excitement is important too. Kurt/Ed/Kristine/Mary are coming to kick it in San Francisco with me next week! Exciting! I will be posting many pictures of our Mini-Motors/Apple/drinking/clubbing adventures when I get back from my trip, so come check it out, yo.

Its official! Im going to Israel and Egypt with friend/associate, Patrick Shen. We are leaving February 25th, and we will return on March 11th. We are going to shoot material for his documentary "Man In Search of Immortality". It is a documentary covering the many ways that man tries to achieve various forms of immortality. You can find more information about it at: maninsearch.com. While I'm excited to be going to the Middle East and help on his documentary, I am even more excited to be starting production of my documentary soon. It's about the golden age of videogames. I will give more details on that soon.

This is the premiere of "the new DeepGeek". The reason I am making this page is because it is an easy way for my family and friends (that I don't talk to on a regular basis) to keep up with what is going on in my life. I suppose its a little impersonal, but I think its better than nothing. Plus, I had the desire to try some web design concepts that I've been thinking of. I also see this site as an excellent way to give everyone photos. I always have people asking for copies of the photos from the last time they were here in San Francisco, or the last time I was in Los Angeles or Saint Louis, and now I only have to post them once, and everyone has access to them. All in all, I think this will be a productive website. Contrary to popular belief, this site does not exist so that I can look at myself all of the time.

DeepGeek the music show is officially no more. I had a good time doing it the past few years, but I have a few higher priority projects I'm working on that are taking a lot of my time. I no longer have the time to produce/edit DeepGeek, and I never did have time to maintain its website. I would like to thank all of the people that helped me with DeepGeek through the years (especially Heather). I will miss it. In its absence, I've decided to put the domain and bandwidth (which is already paid for) to use. http://www.deepgeek.net is now my way of spreading the Good Word of Andrew (henceforth referred to as GWA).
